Hello!

I run clubteenpix.net and have noticed today, that 2 first thumbs on my site are of bad CTR, while the best 15 thumbs are shuffled across the site - only 2 in the first row, and only 5 in hall of fame (which shows 30 thumbs), some of them were at the bottom of page. I've seen this sometimes before, but earlier this situation could be for very short time.. and today I see this for several hours! Prod on site became 20% lower than 2 days ago. Then I pushed Panic button and in 30 minutes prod goes up by 15%! And now it seems to be working properly.

Question: Why it was not working properly before "Panic"? (No, I have not changed thumbs quantity in template. And there was no server crashes.)

Then I added 2 new thumbs, one of them casted normally and now has very good CTR, it is on the top of page, but second added thumb casted only once and script has not show it for several hours now. Here is data for them:

First thumb:
CTR: 109
Casts: 3
Clicks: 327
LastCTR: 206

Second:
CTR: 16
Casts: 1
Clicks: 16
LastCTR: 0

Why second thumb casted only one time? CTR 16 is not very bad to continue casting... BTW, is it normally, that I have a lot of thumbs in database that have data like this:
CTR: 8
Casts: 1
Clicks: 8
LastCTR: 0
When will they be casted second time?

Hmm... Yesterday I pushed panic button and switched off updating of my site using .htaccess... and in one day traffic on site grew up from 68K to 86K!! =o Very strange...

Sometimes thumb manager rediscover some old thumbs, that for one reason or another suddenly become more productive. That could explain why a couple of thumbs with bad prod got into your top section. Look at their last ctr. If that is good then there is no problem.

Sometimes thumb manager shows some weird stats like
CTR: 16
Casts: 1
Clicks: 16
LastCTR: 0

How can a thumb have 1 cast 16 clicks and last ctr 0? Matt explained that in a thread on this board. It remember it as a bit complicated, but it had something to do with the thumb getting clicked after the cast ended.

ctr 16 on a 85k tgp is not that good, and not necessarily enough for a second cast (IMO it could be a nice feature to have a new thumb tested properly with like 5-10 cast immediately after addition - if you have 500+ thumbs in the database it takes weeks for a thumb to be properly tested).

Traffic goes up and down on a tgp. From 68K to 86K in one day is nothing. It could be a number of reasons. Just as a comparison: gallerygroove.com was at 95K friday - dropped to 60K over the weekend and back at 75K today.

You are quite right that hitting the panic button would probably give your site a small prod boost. It should be that way when you list all the best thumbs in the best spots. The problem is that you cannot do that all the time. You have to test the thumbs to see what thumbs to put in the best spots, and you have to rotate thumbs to give your site a new look. So hitting the panic button may help your prod here and now, but I wont work in the long run.
